Media diet for Q1 2020

Music

Spotify playlist for this quarter is here. Playlists for past quarters and years here.

Okay, music I most enjoyed discovering this quarter:

Rediscovered or revisited (i.e. I’m no longer excluding great albums I revisited but hadn’t forgotten about), and really liked:

Movies/TV

Ones I “really liked” (no star), or “loved” (star):

  • Wang, The Farewell (2019) ★

  • Anderson, Isle of Dogs (2018) ★
  • Various, Succession, season 1 (2018)
  • Heller, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
  • Mangold, Ford v Ferrari (2019)
  • Waititi, Jojo Rabbit (2019) ★
  • Cooley, Toy Story 4 (2019)
  • Jarecki, The Jinx (2015)
  • Gertwig, Little Women (2019) ★
  • Eastwood, Richard Jewell (2019)
  • Haynes, Dark Waters (2019)
  • Brooks, Definitely, Maybe (2008)
  • Matsoukas, Queen & Slim (2019)
  • Various, Arrested Development, seasons 1-3 (2003-2006) ★
  • Whannell, The Invisible Man (2020) ★
  • Various, Curb Your Enthusiasm, season 10 (2020) ★
  • Goode & Chaiklin, Tiger King (2020)

Games

Ones I “really liked” (no star), or “loved” (star):

  • Assassin’s Creed: Black FlagRogue: Decent fun, nothing special, certainly nothing like BotW or Witcher 3Rogue is basically an expansion pack for Black Flag rather than a new game.

Books

  • Buchanan, The Hacker and the State. If you read only one book on hacking by states, it should probably be this one.
  • Ord, The Precipice. Best book on existential risks, well-written and with novel intellectual content, great stuff.

I really wonder what your media consumption rate is on a daily basis. That looks like a lot to read/listen to/watch/play, even for 3 months!
